"Let's Talk-Communicative Arabic Studies to Promote Shared Citizenship"

Arab Teacher Placements: 32 Arab teachers are teaching "Let's Talk" in 255 classrooms in 35 elementary schools, reaching nearly 9000 students across Israel's central disttict.

Strengthening our Partnership with the Ministry of Education: Regular meetings are held with Ministry of Education Inspectorate, local Mayors and Education Department Directors and with schools participating in our programs in order to monitor teacher integration, resolve any issues that arise and plan activities for the school year.

Jewish-Arab Encounters: 10-15 joint Jewish-Arab encounters are run for children studying within the "Let's Talk" program in Jewish schools and their counterparts in local Arab schools based on "Let's Meet" - a new Hebrew and Arabic teaching and activity pack.

Arabic Cultural Activity Days: These days are taking place in Jewish schools running the "Let's Talk" program to teach the children about Arab culture and religion through creative activities including art, food-tasting, dance and song.

Curriculum Development: "Let's Meet" is a new program which has been developed to improve the quantity, quality and impact of Jewish-Arab student encounters within “Let’s Talk” and Merchavim’s growing range of Arabic-teaching activities. Through the provision of appropriate materials, teacher-training and support, we intend to improve currently “spontaneous” encounters and to encourage Jewish and Arab schools not currently twinned and not holding encounters to initiate them. The new teaching pack provides creative preparation, implementation and summation activities in both Hebrew and Arabic. Appropriate teacher-preparation and support is being offered to ensure that the “Let’s Meet” encounters are meaningful. .

Program Expansion: Owing to a successful pilot in 2010-11, programs for Northern District elementary and junior-high school Art teachers and for elementary school principals which use the medium of art as an educational tool for understanding the concept of shared citizenship, are being conducted for a second year.
