Arab Teacher Placements: 34 new and veteran Arab-Israeli teachers are teaching math, English, science and Arabic to over 7,000 students in 154 classrooms as part of "Teaching Across School Streams" - our national initiative to integrate Arab-Israeli teachers in Jewish junior-high and high schools.
Program Implementation: Merchavim has designed and produced a number of shared citizenship curriculum which are currently being implemented by Jewish and Arab teachers in schools following specialized training:
English teachers are using Merchavim's "ACCESS and Shared Citizenship in American History" educational pack - a Shared Citizenship English program for Arab- and Jewish-Israeli high school students. The pack integrates curriculum modules that facilitate English learning for Israeli high school students with exploration of core shared citizenship values and dilemmas through the prism of prominent case studies from American history: the civil rights and women’s movements.
"Spaces of Shared Citizenship” educational packs are being used by Jewish and Arab junior-high schools.
Northern district junior-high school pack "Diverse Traditions in a Multicultural Society" are being implemented by schools in the north.
Pack implementation is being monitored by the Ministry of Education. Teachers are provided with individual guidance sessions on how to implement the pack, by Ola Perry – MERCHAVIM's Arabic Language Pedagogical Instructor.
Curriculum Development: Our new 7th grade follow-on Arabic teaching pack “Let’s Get Acquainted with the Arab World and Islam”, is being implemented by Arab teachers in around 20 Jewish-secular junior-high schools.
Research - Responding to the Challenges facing the Integration of Arab Teachers in Jewish Schools: Merchavim has commissioned a new round of comprehensive research in coordination with the Ministry of Education to identify the obstacles facing the integration of hundreds of Arab teachers in Jewish schools and to define targets and strategy to advance the long-term success of our Arab integration program. This will help us to achieve our wider strategic vision of Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, teaching, working and living together harmoniously.
